It takes courage to recognise yourself and to give yourself what you need. For Fran Borg-Wheeler her journey involves recognising the gifts and the unique qualities that she brings to the party.
“I like creating space so that people can focus on what they have achieved, look at the impact they have had on other people and feel good and proud about that. Sometimes alongside my gratitude practice, I also do ‘prouds’ I’ll write a list of little things that I’m proud of, especially if I’m not feeling too great.”
A Mother’s Love
“My mom passed away during COVID of cancer. I started to understand that I had been motivated to get into the sector by my mother’s journey. She had a very difficult childhood. She’d been an unaccompanied child or asylum seeker with no knowledge of any family members whatsoever. Mum was adopted in a very violent household, and somehow, she managed to survive, get a scholarship to the Royal College of Music, as a pianist. She managed to raise her family and keep her head held high.”
Fran’s Pastimes
You get back in tune with what you need. I’m in a gospel choir. It’s how to bring a bit more joy into your life. You can find out what works for you. It’s less about having to stick to rules and more about learning to listen to your heart, your body, and your mind.
What Fran Is Learning About Herself
“Being quite determined, I don’t like to give up on things. Sometimes that can be a detriment to myself. The lesson is about knowing when to quit or when to come back a bit, rather than feeling like I have to continue.”
Savor the Glimmers
“Think about when you started. For me it was about emerging from a dark patch. It’s about remembering to be grateful for the tiny things. There are periods of time where I’ll go through actively practicing gratitude. I’m in a better state of mind right now. Setting intentions brings clarity and energy. “ says Fran.
