Laura Gate’s Journey with Grief & Loss

Walking with grief and embracing loss is an essential part of life’s passage.

“We’re all going to go there, but we live in a culture that doesn’t like to talk or think about death. The more we can normalise death as part of the living process, the more we can navigate these waters without as much stress and pain and suffering as we do. Thinking beyond death is also something we don’t talk about in a lot of circles.  The more we can be aware of that and embrace that, the more I think it, it eases the path in many ways” says Laura Gates.

In The Awakened Brain, researcher Lisa Miller, Ph.D., shows—through decades of brain-scan studies—that an expansive spiritual mindset is linked to lower depression and reduced suicidal ideation.

She did research of brain scans for decades.  Those who had a more expansive spiritual mindset, experienced less depression, less suicidal tendencies and ideation,

Not letting fear of other people’s judgments, not letting fear of not being good enough, not letting fear of what if I fail. Not letting that be a blocker.  “I think that’s also something I’ve experienced.  Now I think, let’s just do it. Let’s just try. Let’s see where it goes.  I don’t want to wait for Friday to have fun.   That aspect of community and having people around you who are supportive and who can guide you and point you to different directions where you can find help is so important and crucial.”

Laura’s concluding remarks are heart touching.  “The best way I can honour my sister is to live my life to the fullest and give as much as I can.”
